A house is the most expensive thing that most people will ever buy, but it is not just the cost of the house itself that you need to consider. There are lots of costs associated with moving house as well as the costs that you need to plan for once you are living in there…
Before the Move:
Solicitors Fees – This is the legal part of the house move and you will need to get a solicitor to deal with this for you. Solicitors’ fees can vary, but your estate agent may be able to recommend you a solicitor, or family members and friends who have moved house recently may also be able to point you in the right direction.
Stamp Duty – This is something which changes fairly often so it is worth looking into the stamp duty rules at the time you are moving. It is also possible to reclaim the stamp duty after you have moved in some cases – this is known as a stamp duty refund.
The Move Itself:
Removal Company Costs – Hiring a removal company is an easy way to get everything moved, but you might want to ring around for quotes when you are on a tight budget. If you want to hire a removal company, make sure that you factor this into your costs.
Cleaning Costs – Before you move from your current home, you may want to get a professional cleaning company in to clean it rather than doing it yourself – it may also be something that you want to have done at your new home before you move in so get some prices for this to add to your budget for moving day.
