Top essential oils for the Winter season

General

During the winter season we can all start to feel a bit sluggish and like we would much rather be hibernating until the warmer Spring weather appears. Naturally many of us start to reach for the coffee pot or the biscuit tin in a bid to keep ourselves awake and feeling more on top of things. Now whilst this may help in the short time, you find that the effects of these caffeine and sugar hits will only last a short period of time and can’t sustain you in the long term.

The best ways to help ensure that you keep your energy levels at their optimum as well as trying to stave off those pesky cold viruses is to ensure that you take a multivitamin each day and that you eat a healthy balanced diet. This is important all year round but even more so during the winter. It is also important to make sure that you keep up some moderate levels of exercise to keep your body supple and working at its best. You want to make sure that you don’t overdo this though.

You can also use Essential Oils like the ones you can find at https://www.quinessence.com/ to help with improving your mood and motivation. They can also help to improve your immune system to make sure that you are fighting fit to deal with any nasty bugs and viruses that come your way. The reason essential oils work so well to help us is that our olfactory system (sense of smell) is linked to our limbic system.

Here are some oils you may want to add to your collection to help you over this Winter:

Peppermint

This lovely aroma helps not only with clearing your nasal and sinus areas but can also help your respiratory system in general. It is a popular choice to be included in decongestants and in stress relieving shower gels and bath oils.

Eucalyptus

Another main ingredient in everything from cough drops to decongestants. It has qualities that help with clearing the airways and relieving some of the congested symptoms and stuffy head feelings that come with a common cold.

Citrus – in particular orange

The aromas of citrus can really help to energise you and to help give you a much-needed pick me up during the colder autumn and winter months. You will often find orange oils included in blends that are intended for helping you to relax and also in blends that are designed to help with concentration and motivation.
