A Scrum Master’s role is to ensure that they do anything possible to ensure that their team is performing at the highest level. This involves many varied tasks at a number of different levels, including:
Business Level
A Scrum Master needs to create an environment that is creative, safe and productive. They need to enable a collaborative approach between colleagues.
Product owner level
A Scrum Master helps the product owners understand and adhere to the company’s practices and expected techniques.
Team level
If teams are encountering any problems, a Scrum Master will need to provide help and guidance to overcome these.
Individual level
As well as team support, a Scrum Master will be on hand to give support to individuals. If an individual within a team is struggling, then the Scrum Master needs to help keep them focused and productive.
There are 2 well-recognised organisations:
Scrum Alliance
This was established in 2001 and is one of the most influential organisations. There are more than 500,000 certified people worldwide including Althris, offering Scrum Master Training in Dublin. The following qualifications can be achieved:
Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
Certified Scrum Developer (CSD)
Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)

This was founded in 2009 and marked as a global organisation. The main aim was to improve the profession of software delivery by reducing any gaps. This helps make the work and its products more dependable. This organisation provides Professional Scrum Master (PSM) qualifications at 3 different levels:
PSM 1 – Students need to prove they understand Scrum and its concepts as described in the Scrum guide.
PSM 2 – Students need to understand underlying principles of Scrum and this can be practically applied in real-world situations.
PSM 3 – Students need a deep understanding of the applications and practices of Scrum. Scrum values will need to be applied in complex situations.
The Scrum Master role has an 8/10 career advancement score. These results are based on career potential, growth, and salary increases. Companies are increasingly under pressure to get their products to market faster and therefore, the Scrum Master position is in high demand. Although demand is high, the correct person needs to be found and companies should not rush into hiring. Ensure you hire for the end goal required.
